Do citizens of wealthier nations live happier lives compared to those living in poor countries? I don’t think I am qualified to answer this question since happiness is defined differently by various cultures.
But one thing I can tell you is that by looking at the data made available to public by the United Nations, we can see families in rich countries tend to be smaller and their life expectancy is much higher.
While anyone curious enough can download the data and observe/compare the trends using Excel or other tools, I have opted for Tableau to create an animated chart combining multiple data sets. In the below tutorial, I am showing you how you can compare fertility rates and life expectancy at birth for over 200 countries dividing them into multiple regions.
You can also single out countries of interest to analyze the trends across several decades. The input Excel files can be downloaded using the link provided in video description.
Data is beautiful.
